Nimzo-Larsen Attack1.b3
White renounces Pawn action in the center by preparing to fianchetto the Queen's Bishop. The other Bishop may also be finachettoed. Example line 11.b3 Nf6 2.Bb2 g6 3.e4 d6 4.g3 Bg7 5.Bg2 O-O
Black counters by also holding back in the center, instead building a position similar to the King's Indian Defense. Example line 21.b3 e5 2.Bb2 Nc6 3.e3 d5 4.Bb5 Bd6
Black counters by building a Pawn center. White will attempt to undermine it; Black will attempt to maintain it. (Back to initial position.)
