FIDE Announcement in respect of the World Chess Championship`s participants to be held in Tripoli, Libya
FIDE would like to announce the following concerning the 2004 World Chess Championship and recent withdrawals of certain players from the USA:
1) GM Boris Gulko of the USA has been replaced, according to regulations, by IM Jose Gonzalez Garcia of Mexico.
2) As it has been clarified that 2 GMs (Alexander Shabalov and Alexander Onischuk) of the USA have withdrawn at the last moment from the 2004 World Chess Championship, the following players are the candidates to replace them, according to the WCC 2004 regulations:

3. GM Ariel Sorin - ARG
4. GM Jesus Nogueiras - CUB
5. FM Raul Monier - ARG

The above 8 players (in accordance with the final standings of the American Continental Championships) are requested to send the attached undertaking signed until June 4, 2004 to the FIDE Secretariat in Athens by fax no.: +30 2109212859 in order to be eligible to participate in the event.
In case any of the above players do not wish to participate, they should also inform FIDE about their decision in writing.
FIDE is doing its best to publish the list of participants and the pairings within the coming few days.
