Interzonal (IZ) legend:-
- $I : IZ Stockholm
GMG notes:-
- [z02] The Netherlands denied Uhlmann entry to the country to play at Berg-en-Dal. The Soviet chess federation protested, and Hungary, Yugoslavia, Bulgaria, and Poland withdrew. A second zonal was thus arranged at Marianske Lazne. Dueckstein and Teschner came 2nd and 3rd at Berg-en-Dal, and were given the right to play in the IZ.
- [z04] Spassky and Smyslov finished tied for fifth, failing to qualify for the interzonal.
- [z05] William Lombardy and Raymond Weinstein qualified, declined and were replaced.
- [z06] Lionel Joyner won the Canadian ch./zonal at Brockville 1961, but was replaced by Yanofsky.
